Laboratories and research facilities

Laboratories, research centers and biobanks use medical gases, pure gases, gas mixtures, cryogenic liquids and gas materials and installations for their cryogenic and analytical instrumentation equipment.

Gases for labs and research facilities

In analysis and research laboratories, different gases are used as support for various applications. It is very common to use pressurized gases supplied through a fixed installation or directly from bottles in their gaseous or liquefied state.

Cryopreservation

Cryopreservation is the process by which biological material is stored at very low temperatures (-196ºC), keeping all its characteristics intact.

The objective of cryopreservation is the conservation of cellular tissues at temperatures below -130ºC since at this temperature all signs of life are suspended without cell deterioration. Thus, it is possible to keep biological samples for an indefinite period of time and use them later in transplants or in-vitro fertilization.

Cryopreservation applications include in-vitro fertilization, blood transfusion, tissue, cell and umbilical cord blood banks, research laboratories and dermatology.

Cell culture

Cell culture is a fundamental tool used in laboratories for studying the normal physiology and biochemistry of cells, mechanisms underlying disease, including cancer, and effects of drugs and toxic compounds.

It also consists of the set of techniques that allow for the isolation, growth, maintenance and reproduction of cells of both animal and plant origin, maintaining their physiological, biochemical and genetic properties to the maximum.

To help in the process, medical and specialty gases such as carbon dioxide and nitrogen allow researchers to create the necessary conditions for optimal cell culture.

Calibration

Calibration helps ensure the safe operation of sensitive analytical instruments in quality control, safety technology, emission monitoring and environmental monitoring, as well as compliance with applicable standards and codes of practice. These analytical instruments use highly accurate gas mixtures with defined compositions for calibration.

Speciality gases such as Argon (Ar) and Helium (He) are used thermal analysis, cryoablation, chromatography, and spectrometry.
